International Growth Strategy for Diagnostics Healthcare Company
Health Co had world-leading capabilities in the diagnostics sector and had decided to look offshore to find the next leg of growth. While many markets looked feasible on paper, Health Co wanted to identify the most attractive markets and also ensure the path to continued international expansion would make sense strategically rather than simply form a scattergun approach to new market entry.

- Developed a framework to evaluate attractiveness of international opportunities
- Conducted extensive primary (including 40+ expert calls) and comprehensive secondary research to develop a point of view on each in-scope market
- Filtered 20 in-scope countries down to a prioritised shortlist of 6 countries
- Evaluated regulatory constraints and doctor supply
- Assessed preferred entry models including organic and inorganic approaches
- Assessed “executability” early – markets lacking a viable organic approach or available M&A targets were deprioritised quickly
- Prioritised the preferred pathway based on analysis

Genesis applied a pragmatic approach which combined a framework identifying attractive markets with a search for actionable M&A targets which significantly reduced the effort required to profile target markets. Ultimately Genesis identified four feasible growth pathways for international expansion which became the foundation of Health Co’s international growth strategy.
